How far out do you map your programming?

Hi

I’m recently getting back into the swing of things after too long of a layoff due to injuries, lifestyle lapses, and life itself.

With that said, I’ve recently started back up on the Beginner Prescription. A few years ago, I did The Bridge, Hypertrophy, and 12 week strength training. Had some numbers that I was proud of at the time but am now working back after the layoff.

The question I pose is how far out do you map your programming? i.e. This time next year, I’d like to be near completion of the 12 week strength program with goals of hitting new PRs on all main lifts. What advice would you give on filling in the time from now till then? I plan to jump to the Bridge here soon, then who knows after that. I do need to do a strong recomp to get my current waist down to sub 40” from the current 43”. The beers are killing me.

Sorry for the long post, and thank you

Steve

Hey Steve,

Good to hear from you again. Hope all is well!

To your question, I usually plan programming for myself and clients for ~ 3-5 weeks at a time when starting a new training cycle. After that, it’s mostly planned out in 1-2 week chunks, where changes are dictated by how well the programming is going (based on results), enjoyment, and any new needs (upcoming meet, trip, etc.).

For now, I’d plan on running our new Beginner Program if you can swing it. Then, I’d pick your next program based on how much time you have to train, your goals, and preferences. We have a big library of programs to suit different needs when the time comes
