I’m looking to get some guidance on how I should be adjusting my load for a weird calf sensation I’ve been dealing.
Context:
Leading up to the month of October, I significantly and abruptly increased the amount of volume and daily activities that involved my right calf (mostly due to my boxing stance where my right/back leg pushes off the ground). Within that same week, I did a bunch of cycling and hours of walking. At no point did I feel pain except for a feeling of pressure/tightness in the calf which was following by an odd sensation of heat on the outside of my lower leg.
I ignored it at first but then the level of heat started to increase (again no pain though). I decided to ease off and give my leg some rest for a week and the hot sensation disappeared. However, the tight/pressure feeling seems to be lingering and when going upstairs it feels like my calf is on the verge of cramping.
I read about exertion based compartment syndrome but I only seem to have the tightness feeling (no redness or pain). Any ideas how to approach this would help if anyone has experienced similar symptoms. Thanks!
Thanks for the question and sorry to hear about your situation. It is difficult for us to give specific insight without a consult. I suggest following our general recommendations for adjusting activity as needed; outlined here. We’d also be happy to complete a remote consultation with you to give specific insight.
