Split Squat Foot Pain. What do?

BLUF: Ball of supporting foot hurts from split squatting. What do?

Just started the Powerbuilding Template. Was prescribed split squats. I am getting pain in the ball of my left foot (also in toes slightly) while in extension(?) in the supporting (back) position. When swapping to left leg split squat, I have no pain in my right foot. I get the pain even when using empty barbell.

This must have been going on a while, because the last time I ran one of your programs I ran into the same issue and substituted for BSS instead. Only was reminded by trying again today, two years later.

Could a broken metatarsal on the left foot from 15 years ago be the culprit?

I thought it could be an issue fixing with a quick stretch, but it is persisting. I will follow up with a video tomorrow if that helps.

In the mean time I think I will substitute BSS. Does that make sense?

Thanks team!

Adam

I would want to see video and follow up about the injury history, yes. In the meantime however, I’d favoring step ups or Bulgarian split squats for now. Alternatively, you could try front foot elevated split squat to see if changing the angle of the dangle works!
