Upperbody plateau

Hey BBM team,
I started the Powerbuildig template at the start of this year. I am at week 6 atm and i have seen improvements with the squat and deadlift. However my bench and ohp have not been improving. On the other hand i also did start training bazillian jiu jitsu(2x a week on days where i do not train) at the beginning of the year. After having a couple of “light sessions” of bjj in week 4 of the program i shaterd my “bench plateau” in week 5. But unfortunatly i am back to the same bench numbers in week 6 after normal bjj training.

My questions are:
1.How can i keep on improving my bench and ohp numbers? Should i be adding more volume, if so how can i do that in powerbuilding 1?

2.In week 6, it was my first time doing singles. All of them were lower then calculated. Is this normal? I have never done sets lower then 5 reps.

e1rm:
deadlift: 143kg
squat: 113kg
bench: 71kg
ohp: 53kg

I have been training for 8-9months.

Weight: 78.6kg , Height: 172cm , Waist 33.5inch

Thank you in advanced!

Hey Danny,

Thanks for the post and I hope you’re doing well.

  1. I would continue to run the template as-is and see how you do with it. I don’t think you’re wonting for volume, but rather haven’t adapted yet to the fatigue generated from training + BJJ. Rather than try to micromanage it, I’d soldier on and you’ll get used to it, methinks.

  2. That’s not unusual, as singles are substantially different than rep work. I suspect you’ll get much better at them very quickly

Thanks Jordan!
How long should i wait to see if its fatigue generated or something else? Or is it individual?

Another thing that is bothering me, is that my legs get really sore after squatting. Its not THAT big of a deal but it does influence the 2ct squat on wednesday. I assume its because im kinda new to squatting (4 months max) and i will get used to it with more time. Is that normal?

Thank you in advanced!

I would just run the template to it’s conclusion and see how you do with it. Yes, I think it’s normal for your legs to be sore

Keep up the good work dude.
