For people who cannot do pin presses due to being too tall for the rack, I was recommended either Z Presses or Paused Presses at the chin for 1ct. Now has anyone had any experience with these? Are they decent alternatives?
Z presses take a long time time to get efficient at - it might take a few months of twice a week z presses before you’re near 90% of what you can do on standing ohp , so if you want to use them for this purpose, it’s a long term commitment imo. Pin presses seated on a bench without back support might be a better option. Alternatively, seated ohp with back support or even high incline press off pins might be fine too.
Paused presses are definitely a good movement in the category of press “sticking-point” assistance. Both these variations you listed - paused reps, concentric reps - are good variations for improving your strength at your sticking point, and it’s really just assistance, so I think both are fine.
