Abductor Muscle Tear During Squat (@ a Powerlifting Meet)

Hey guys, had my second powerlifting meet this past saturday. Very first attempt of the day, 185kg squat (something ive hit in the gym plenty of times) I got to the bottom and as soon as i started up i felt an “unraveling” “tearing” in my right leg up near the groin figure it was one of my abductor muscles maybe up into the hip area. Complicating the issue, i had hernia surgery on that side in late 2019, so it strained that area. Was a real frustration as i did get the weight, but had to bow out of the meet and was concerned how badly i had hurt myself. I had just warmed up to 385lb and everything felt ok, so it was a very odd situation. Had my hernia doctor check me out and all is good, the bruising is rather interesting and things are tender, but day by day it is improving (only been 5 days). I have a few questions for anyone who has trained and maybe had a similar issue.

  1. Have you ever torn something on a weight that you have moved multiple times in the past? I assume maybe i was so amped up that i over did what i needed to?
  2. If you’ve had a similar issue happen, have you determined why? Did you determine it was muscle being overly tight, not warming up properly, etc? I know my abductors (and hips) stay tight and i don’t do much mobility work but ive never had a muscle tear like this.
  3. Without seeing any video of my squat technique, is there any correlation to abductor tears while squatting and form? Even something like poor breath/bracing (we had to compete with a mask although i thought my breath/brace was good/normal),

Overall Im just very confused. I am 38 years old, so im not a spring chicken anymore, but never think im going to hurt myself in a meet. I approach as the worst i’ll do is miss my attempts, but that isn’t what happened. I would like to compete again, but obviously i would like to determine if there is some way for me to minimize this type of injury again…
