Frustration when switching templates

Everytime I switch a template I feel like I lose strength.
i went from deadlifting 440 for 6@9 on the 7 week hypertrophy and doing most working sets at 8 with 435.

i just switched back to the 12 week strength and I’m on the 2nd week doing 380 for 5x5 @8…a 55lb difference and its crazy heavy. Was I just overshooting rpe or are my deload weeks killing me?

i know a lot of this could be mental but I physically cant move these heavy weights. I usually hit 495x1 for a single at 8 and it felt like rpe10 today

Edit: I do know strength isn’t linear and that towards the end of a template I’m stronger than in the beginning but I feel as though I’m not making long term progress here

If you’re consistently stronger at the end of the template than at the beginning, is that not the very definition of making long term progress?

I suppose. I was pretty frustrated earlier when I posted that. Looking at it now I have accumulated a lot of fatigue and have a lot of life stress recently.

Even aside from that, it sounds like you have a clear pattern of dipping down in the early weeks, followed by a break out in later weeks. If this is a consistent pattern, then it’s just how your body adapts to training. You should watch the video on the RTS YouTube with Mike T doing a lecture on “Emerging Strategies”, he specifically details this exact case as a very common training response type. So basically, focusing on the week to week fluctuations is probably not the best way to look at things, as that short term view is going to be frustrating. Maybe you should just focus block to block instead?

Yeah the more I think about that the mpre it affects my training. I’m just stressed and was having a bad day and have accumulated a lot of fatigue and wasn’t thinking clearly lol. I feel much better after eating well and getting some good rest yesterday.

I’ve had similar concerns. I’ve learned after a few years of training that this is a long game.
Hang in there, be consistent, do the work and just keep showing up. That will be enough to influence progress over the long term (however long that may take).

Also, don’t underestimate two things: the power of the psycho-emotional to affect the physical and the power of thinking too much to create problems that aren’t there.

Glad you’re feeling better.

Thank you. I am aware of this bio psycho social model I just don’t think clearly sometimes when I’m frustrated.
