HLM Question

Hello Drs Feigenbaum and Baraki,
I’m pretty much average with all 3 lifts, 49 1/2 years old. Ran the Bridge, then went to a
hlm where only 12% difference between heavy and light days. 5 sets 5 on heavy day, 3 sets
of 5 on light, 4 sets of 5 on medium for squats. Same for bench. 1 heavy day and 1 light for deadlift
. 2 days week I do 25 min conditioning. Besides a recent hamstring strain, I’ve been relatively
injury free. But 3 1/2 months in and no increase in lifts or any lighter rpe perception.
Am I lifting heavy too much? At almost 50yrs old I was thinking I need to keep the numbers
closer to my 5rm as opposed to if I was 20 yrs old.

I’m not sure if your intensity is too high, but the training program you’re running doesn’t sound like something we’d have you do. We do have an HLM style template if you like that set up!

Thank you Dr.
given my age, being a desk jockey at work, and conditioning days seem to make me more
tired during the week. What template would you recommend? My macros are good and powerlifting
and getting stronger are my goals. I liked the Bridge 1 when I ran it a few months ago but
when I added the conditioning days I seemed to get more tired during the week. So don’t know what’s up with that.

The HLM template is a good one, and with work on conditioning, you will build your work capacity. That will be a good thing for your training, recovery, and general health.

Ok great! Thanks Leah!
