Hi BBM crew,
My girlfriend is doing STR-1 template and she started week 8 today. The problem is with deadlift. Her deadlift has not progressed and she is getting a bit frustrated. She is 40 years old, bodyweight is 61 kg and she is 160cm.
Here is some info how her main lifts have gone so far (all weights are in kg):
squat:
week 1
e1RM=111
week 7
e1RM=117
bench:
week 1
e1RM=62
week 7
e1RM=66
deadlift:
week 1
e1RM=150
week 2
e1RM=151
week 3
e1RM=142
week 4
e1RM=144
week 5
e1RM=146
week 6
e1RM=137
week 7
e1RM=147
So bench and squat are going up, but deadlift is not. Would you have any suggestions how to proceed or maybe some adjustments to the template?
BR,
Kimmo
Got a video of her deadlift from this past week?
Hi Jordan!
Unfortunately I dont have any recent video of her deadlifting. I can take one once we hit this week’s deadlift session during weekend.
Great. I’d love to see it!
Here is video of her single (137kg):
Here is video of 4 reps @9 (128kg):
Thanks, Kimmo.
What’s the most she’s ever actually deadlifted? I ask because I am reasonably sure she could’ve pulled that single for a set of 4, maybe 5. I also think she had 2-3 reps left (or more) in that set of 4. Rather, it appears she might be relatively new to lifting heavy weights like this, e.g. new to singles and different rep ranges, which may make some of these tasks a bit more novel.
Additionally, technique looks pretty good. Some of the reps start with the bar a cm or two forward of where it should be, but overall, I’d just cue her to try and go faster from the time she puts her hands on the barbell to the time she actually lifts the bar.

Hi Jordan,
Thank you for your reply. The most she has lifted was on the week 3 of this program. It was 142 kg. It felt to her more like a RPE9,5 and affter the single she managed to lift 126kg only 3 times, when it was supposed to be 5@9. 4th rep just didnt leave the floor.
Yeah, I think you are right, she probably could have lifted more today. She is Still a bit new to singles, but not a total beginner.
Thank you for the techinique advices
So basically she just needs more practice and few technique fixes ?
Yea I would probably skip any technique adjustments outside of speeding up how fast she goes from setup to lifting. In other words, stop thinking about it so much
I suspect with more exposure, her technique will continue to improve.
Okey, thanks for the help Jordan
