What is the ideal RPE FOR back off sets on the low fatigue 4 day template? Ihave been doing the low fatigue 4 a week template for about two years now, and have been very pleased with it. I have always thought the back off/accessory sets on the exercises were supposed to elicit an RPE of about 7 (this assumption is because on the medium fatigue template, most backoff sets were supposed to be done until you hit an RPE of seven). However, on a recent podcast, I heard the doctors say they are looking for RPEs closer to 5 or 6. And of course, this can be very different from an individual to individual where some people will thrive at one end of the spectrum and others will completely stall or overtrain, etc. Please forgive me if I have completely misunderstood any and all of these concepts!

Hey Craig! Welcome back to the forum.
Most of the accessory work is programmed for RPE 7 repeats, which is what I would advise in this context.
I don’t think we said we are looking for RPE’s of 5 -6 in favor of RPE 7, but rather RPE 5-6 is sort of the minimum level of exertion we’re looking for on a work set.
Happy to clarify if there’s additional confusion.
