Hey guys, Im looking to buy my first BBM program but I’m somewhat lost. My main goal is strength, don’t really care much about hypertrophy since strength training already puts size on. I’m 23M 175lbs, lifts are 430(High Bar)/325/530. I was interested in the Strength and Powerbuilding series but would like your opinions! Are there better options than these two? If I’m going to choose Strength or Powerbuilding, which number should I do given my experience?
Howdy! Welcome to the forum. We’re happy to have you ![]()
We agree that there’s a big overlap when it comes to strength and size. A good strength-focused program will likely generate significant increases in muscle size with appropriate nutritional and lifestyle (sleep) support. Similarly, a good hypertrophy-focused program is likely to increase strength in the exercises trained. That said, a strength-focused program won’t build as much size as a hypertrophy-focused one and vice-versa.
I’m not trying to correct you per se’, but I see this belief encourage people to make training decisions that don’t really align with their goals. It’s okay to want to be big and not necessarily care about strength in the Big Three. The opposite is also true, of course.
For you, if strength in the Big Three is your primary goal, Strength II or Powerbuilding IIwould probably be your best bet. Strength II is more strength-focused (great name, eh?), whereas powerbuilding II dedicates some of the training load to hypertrophy. I personally enjoy powerbuilding, but that’s just me.
Let me know what you think!
